Abstract

Most of the Angolan population communicates using a language other than Standard European Portuguese (SEP). The interferences from L1s, generally languages of Bantu origin, are evident in the speech of most Angolans. The educational policies (or their planning) designed for this multilingual country seem not to meet the real sociolinguistic and communicative needs of the population. Our research is exploratory in nature, as it aims to survey the grammatical content present in Portuguese Language programs, contrasting it with what is found in the Portuguese Language textbooks used in elementary education in the Republic of Angola. The analysis and comparison between the exercises (and their respective explanations) present in the textbooks and the guidelines in the programs will be interpretative in nature. The aim is to look at the grammar content in the Portuguese language syllabus to see if it is reflected in the textbooks, but also to see if the students' level of proficiency is adequate for the grammar content in question.
