Abstract
Teacher training is an essential part of the integration of future teachers in the world of education. This study examined the impacts and benefits of the presence of student teachers in secondary education classrooms, according to both teachers and students. Qualitative and quantitative data were obtained through questionnaires and interviews, where 153 students took part, as well as 16 teachers from different high schools in the Canary Islands. The results reveal perceived benefits in pedagogical aspects. However, there is a noted lack of involvement by student teachers in creating meaningful connections with students. Moreover, changes in the law may hinder the correct fulfilment of mentoring functions. The need for homogeneous guidelines to guarantee the achievement of objectives during the internship and to optimize the interaction between future teachers and the educational community is highlighted.
