Fighting invasive species: STEAM practices and biodiversity conservation
Main Article Content
Abstract
Invasive species are one of the main threats to biodiversity conservation worldwide; Portugal is no exception. It is essential to change the attitudes and behavior of the population, minimizing the introduction, dispersion, and establishment of these species. School can contribute to fostering pro-environmental behaviors in students and, when open to the community, in other educational actors such as families. This paper reports on a STEAM pedagogical practice that articulates Science with Literature. In this intervention, students analyze the threats to biodiversity due to the presence of invasives species. This study took place in an interdisciplinary context in which students learned and promoted community awareness actions for the protection of the environment and invasive eradication.
