Being resilient: from the perception of Academics and Researchers of Engineering in Chiapas

Chiapas is an entity that historically has been located on the periphery of opportunities, which has caused the development of research to become a challenge for academics and researchers of this region, since they are the ones who have to resist the difficulties related to the context of the entity. The objective of this study was to recover the perception of the concept of resilience that academics and researchers of the National System of Researchers (SNI) of the VIII-Engineering Area possess to overcome adversity. Area VIII is the least supported and therefore offers the greatest stressors for subjects of this research. Through in-depth interviews applied to four researchers from public universities in Chiapas, three categories were proposed (attitudes, values and socio-emotional). It is concluded that the category of “attitudes” plays a fundamental role in overcoming stressors.
