Abstract

The evolution of the teaching and dissemination of Slavic languages, in general, and of the Russian language, in particular, in Spain is a long and complex historical process, shaped and modulated by geographical, historical and political factors. Unlike what happened in neighboring countries such as Germany, France, England or Italy, which have had a long tradition of cultural ties with Russia and the rest of the Slavic countries for centuries, as well as teaching and learning Slavic languages, cultural and all kinds of contacts between Spain and these countries began to develop only in the 50s and 60s of the twentieth century, which also influenced, as we will see in this article, the interest in the study of Slavic languages. This year, 2024, marks the 30th anniversary of the introduction of the degree in Slavic Philology at the University of Granada and the 20th anniversary of the creation of the specialized journal “Cuadernos de Rusística Española”. In the present article are presented some of the first steps of slavistics at the University of Granada and part of the contribution of the Research Group “Slavistics, Caucasology and Linguistic Typology” (HUM-827) to its development over these 30 years, as one of its main actors.
