Abstract

In the following pages the autor analyzes the participation of the Chancilleria of Granada in the repopulating process and in the managenent of the population tax. The main conclusion is that the Chancilleria does indirectly interviene in both issues through its members and not as a court. Its members sometimes act as fellows of the Consejo de Población and others as judges of the population tax. Furthermore she studies the evolution of the Consejo de Población from its creation in 1579 until its def initive dissolution in 1687. In the final section the problems created by the hiring of the population tax are investigated.
