Abstract

Finished the moorish rising in 1570, the Crown and the local powers were aware of the neccesity of reconstructing the silk activity, very castigated by the war, because its importance was enormous to the repopulating process success, to the economic development of the Kingdom of Granada and to the income of the royal finances. The measures adopted were directed towards both the recovery of the productive process (breeding, craft industry and trade) and in the upkeep of the existing fiscal system. Meanwhile the achievements were important in the scope of the renta de la seda, craftsmanship and trade; however, in the production base, that is, the growing and the care of the mulberry trees, they didn’t get the expected results, neither the new settlers were adapted to a growing unknown to many of them.
