Abstract

The promotion of private housing in some parts of Granada has taken on a distinct character in the Realejo district. During the 1940s a building style developed around Molinos Street consisting of terraced or detached houses which acquired a luxury status, although the original plan, strangely enough, was for modest social dwellings. The participation of architects such as Francisco Prieto-Moreno indicates that some of these projects were designed to be quality products, and they helped to consolidate the sense of a real residential area in this part of Granada, which had already begun to define the style of this quarter during the 19th century.
