Abstract

The Romantic movement, which undertook a profound critica! and literary revaluation of its cultural and artistic past, also re-examined the period of the Renaissance. Although this Jatter aspect often passes unnoticed, the Renaissance in fact aroused great interest among the theoreticians of the time, concemed either to evaluate its achievements or to incorporate its premises into the intense historical and cultural debate which was taking
place.
