Abstract

From 1890 onwards, town planning in Ronda underwent a series of changes. One the one hand, these were due to the economic boom brought about by the arrival of the railway, and on the other they were also the result of the rise of a very active professional and intellectual middle class. The Espinel theatre, designed by Santiago Sanguinetti Gómez, was one of the buildings affected by these changes: an emblematic example of the rise of a bourgeois society, it was finally opened on the 8th of May, 1909.
