Abstract

At the beginning of the 1950s significant cultural and artistic changes took place in Spain, which helped to bring to an end Spain's international isolation and normalise its status. Hence an increasing nurnber of ideological changes and proposals arose which favoured the development of avant-garde art. In the context of the theoretical discussions on Abstraction, the debate on national identity and the search for genuinely Spanish art forms was prominent and had indeed been an importan! feature of the artistic culture of the country since the 19th century.
