Abstract

Nativity scenes constitute one of the most representative examples of baroque art in the old Real Audiencia building in Quito, indeed there are examples which are of better quality than those in the capital city and are indeed comparable with contemporary works in Naples. In this paper we attempt to establish the principal features of these scenes and the methodological parameters for their study. This seems to be both an urgent and a potentially fruitful task.
