Abstract

Throughout their existence, archives, libraries and museums have always needed to leave works of art belonging to their national heritage in deposit in other official buildings. This measure, though paradoxical, seemed the most appropriate when the number of works of art was such as to preclude their being on permanent display. For almost a century the University of Granada was thus able to build up a formidable collection of paintings.
