Abstract

From their first appearance up to the middle of the 181h century, journals and periodicals served as standardbearers of ideological and political trends of thought, and as a faithful reflection of the epoch. In the field of architecture they contributed to the general appreciation of this discipline. In this paper we provide a historical overview of architectural journals, based on the study of newspaper and periodical libraries, from their inception till the peak of their influence. We take the case of Germany, since the journals published there serve as examples of originality, complexity, tradition and modernity.
