Abstract

The Czech artist František Kupka (1871-1957) starts in theosophical studies very young, especially when he began to study in Prague, but it will be during his stay in Vienna, where his contacts with the philosophical statements will have a greater impression on his theoretical and practical projects.

The artist, assiduous reader of the hermetic and Eastern philosophies, especially of the books made by HP Blavatsky, A. Besant and C. W. Leadbeater, begins to extract specific information about the early origins and connections between science and occultist doctrine that will use to build his pictorial universe. Allusions to Genesis, by means of configuration of the lotus, the water, the fetus and the golden egg will go into emanationist theories of theosophy. Also, many of these formal elements show his knowledge about the Hindu imagery.
