Abstract

Spanish nineteenth century became an attractive tourist destination and, as a consequence, the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela was rediscovered by British and French people. This paper is part of a comparative study of these travellers’ memories and literature about its architecture. Thus, the present text contains a brief review of the travel to Spain during the nineteenth century, a methodological introduction, and the study of British travel literature. The second one will offer the analysis of French travel literature and the final conclusions in the next issue of this journal.
