Abstract

Freemasonry, which was a well-established philanthropic institution during the 2nd Republic in Spain, was totally rejected by Franco after the Uprising of 1936. Nonetheless in the Canary Islands official protection allowed such freemason artists as José Aguiar or the architect Marrero Regalado to create numerous projects for the new State, in which the Masonic concept of the Human Being is covertly present as a subversive element.
