Abstract

When Sancho Corbacho published the collection of drawings signed by “D. Z.”, he noticed that 2 of them were marked as having “come from” Alonso Cano. A comparative analysis of these drawings and the architectural works of the Granada artist (altarpieces, building and decoration projects and the façade of Granada cathedral) reveals that a close similarity exists. Both use similar sources (classical treatises and the architecture of Seville) and, in general, they give evidence of the same renovating spirit in comparison with 17th century architecture.
