Abstract

Convents and monasteries in Granada suffered considerably at the ends of the French occupying forces: much that had survived for centuries was destroyed, the buildings sacked and great quantities of works of art stolen. Due to the dissolution decreed by Joseph I and the use of the religious quarters as barracks, storerooms, etc., great damage was done to the buildings and sorne were totally or partially destroyed. Religious works of art were profaned, or simply removed.
