Abstract

This article is devoted to the study of the sanctuary of Granada cathedral, especially its externa! volume and shape. It plays an important part in the architecture of the town and offers a stereotyped image of the Holy City, as is also seen in representations of Jerusalem in medieval pictures and prints.
Special attention is paid to the graphic scenes of Granada (16th and 17th centuries) and to the architectonic development of Spanish cu pulas of the 16th century, especially to those in Aragon. We also examine the hierosolymitan political and ideological valuation of the Spanish monarchs, both the Catholic Kings and Charls 5th.
