Abstract

The confiscation of monasteries and convents undertaken by Mendizabal in 1 835 affected many Spanish foundations. This in turn led not only to the expropriation by the state of lands, income and buildings but also to the requisitioning of a significant amount of works of art which the monasteries and convents housed. From the very beginning of this process inventories were taken, and thanks to these it is possible to determine the artistic patrimony of each community and compare it with the property owned. In the present paper the inventories of the St. Domingo, St. Francis, St. Augustine and St. Diego of Guadix convents are analyzed.
