Abstract

Recent research into the Spanish musical heritage have shown the existence of tendencies towards Arabic traditions in our 1 9th century classical music. In order to complete this picture, and to be in a position to evaluate these works correctly, we should also study those composers and writers who dealt with Arab music, its origins and roots, from the theoretical point of view. In this article the author deals with the figure of Francisco Salvador Daniel, of Spanish origin, who carried out field studies of Arab music and used popular Arab themes in his own works. He also left a corpus of writirigs which give a clear picture of the musical system employed by those peoples among whom he carried out his field work.
