Abstract

The first part of this paper is devoted to an account of the origins and development of the Miserere psalm in the Catholic liturgy and the settings made of it by Spanish composers up to the 1 9 th century. We then discuss the life and works of Vicente Palacios (1777-1836), a master-musician from Zaragoza and analyze the most popular of the works composed during his period as Chapel-Master at Granada cathedral: his Miserere.
