Abstract

1995 was the centenary of the birth of the sculptor from Toledo Alberto Sánchez (Toledo 1895 - Moscow 1962), one of the most important figures of the Spanish avant garde in the period before the Spanish Civil War, and one who has been unfairly neglected. His creative work was not limited to sculpture, though this was his primary occupation. He also worked in other spheres, as a draughtsman, in the cinema and in theatre productions. The present paper concentrates on this Jast facet of his work and discusses the sets designed for one of the productions that the Theatre Group La Barraca, Jed by Federico García Lorca, put on from 1932 to 1936: Fuenteovejuna by Lope de Vega.
