Abstract

At the present time the values used to define our historical heritage are seen as anthropological, implying subjective criteria for their preservation. This has led us to reflect on the origin of the substantial change in
the concept of this heritage of the past - which we would place in the first half of the 20th century -, and to consider the reasons that led to it. lt is here, then, that what we have called the inherent, or real, values of this heritage originate, and the main features which characterize them seem to be subjectivity, globlaization, integration, universality and public intercst.
