Resumo

In Madīnat al-Zahrā’, men and women lived in urban spaces dominated by a regime of gender def ined by a strict sexual segregation, with a regulated mixing where we could not avoid  the  contacts,  in houses  or aljama,  and  with  exclusion  of the  women  from  the  spaces of  the power.  In spite  of this exclusion,  the women  were  present  in the spaces  used  for the rituals of the power and the city always bore a feminine name.
