Abstract

This article tries to explain Yolanda Lopez’s work from the categories “ethnicity” and “gender”. For this reason, we are going to focus on her most important work, Virgin from Guadalupe (1978). With her self-portrait as a Virgin from Guadalupe, López shows a new vision of women: strong and fighter in the face of her triple discrimination: Chicano women, women in the western society and women in the Chicano society.
