Abstract

The film Una gallega en México (1949) let us visualize the way in which Mexican cinema represented the process of acculturation of Spanish Civil War refugees to that country and, particularly, exiled women’s everyday life. By regarding gender as a constitutive element of social relationships, this article understands that both exile and everyday life are shaped by gender, and its filmic representation is not only a product but also a part of the process of gender construction.
