Abstract

The aim of this paper is to show that democracy fullfils the function of both the creation and distribution of wealth and the promotion of safety and security in the legal and political framework of society. These functions come from the thoughts on economic enlightenment related to the interests of the elites in conserving and promoting economic power through the preservation of rights protected by the fictions of shared power and political equality of individuals. They are determined by an unpredictable rationality with which the democratic norm is fulfilled, which then divides into two opposite directions —the irrelevance of the act of voting for the individual and the relevance of the results for the political parties. These are organised under authoritarian or Leninist principles and compete as oligopolies in the political market. The Leninist organization and conduct of capitalist businesses cause what in this article is called the principle of insignificance. This principle governs the political parties and resulting in the creation of leaders under the formula of the median insignificant, the average representative of the individuals that make up the party bureaucracy.
