Abstract

In this launch edition we ask Rogelio López Cuenca about the theoretical and speculative stances behind his work, from the perspective of the complex relationship between research and creation. We want to find out what holds his interest and acts as a focus. Regarding his works analyzing issues of the collective imaginary, we are particularly interested in how he goes about choosing the content. Mindful that, according to Godard, every selection is a political act, we are curious to know whether López Cuenca’s selection follows some kind of program or possible editorial theme.

In response, he comments on his text entitled ‘Je(m´) accuse’ and talks about the counter-stories or alter-geographies from which he challenges official narratives, establishing a critical cartography on the construction of the ‘real’. He talks us through his Bibrramblabookburning project, questioning the place where memories gather – the monument – and using it as a sounding board with which to reveal the abuse that the ideology– environment disguises as the norm. He also offers some final thoughts on the practice of art and the editing process.
