Abstract

The authors –the founding members of the production and cultural mediation organization BNV Producciones– set out a detailed analysis of the editorial activity that arose out of intense initial debate on the groundbreaking means and mechanisms for creating and communicating the knowledge that was beginning to emerge in the late 1980s.

They pose a series of questions that form the basis of their foundational principles and their stance regarding the activation of critical thought and new ways of making and doing in the creative realm. They also provide a critical analysis of the cultural policies that came into play almost overnight in the early 1990s, in the wake of the neoliberal economic influences that were bursting onto the scene. Addressing the socio-political context in which each project unfolded, the writers provide a genealogical examination of their output and relate it to the different individual and institutional collaborations that have taken place since BNV was established in 1998, up to the present day.
