Abstract

The research analyses a performance by Connie Beckley that took place in the Great Hall of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia in front of the piece Object/Subject. The event took place at the opening of the exhibition entitled «John Hejduk: The Riga Project», held between 20 November and 22 December 1987. The research analyses the performance, a poem by David Shapiro and the piece by John Hejduk. The research studies the relationship of the events by unravelling an analysis of the poem as a means of investigating the whole of artistic expression and the non-apparent links between objects, people and the strength of the written text when it is declaimed on a television screen. The research tries to study concrete questions that have occurred in an artistic experience.
