Abstract

In Balm for Assuaging Grief - (Seri ha-Yagon) Shem Tob Ibn Falaquera gets into the realm of consolation literature to provide his readers with a range of remedies for the sadness “disease”. For such a purpose, he resorts to a great variety of texts and themes that were widely spread at the time. He adds to this common material that of stemming from the Hebrew tradition properly in a single melting of universal consoling patterns with the specific values of the community he belongs to.
