Abstract
The signature is considered a very reliable sign of the levels of literacy in any social group. In this study we examine the presence of signatures in Arabic in notarial documents in the area of Baza (Granada) between 1511 and 1526, considering several historical, diplomatic and graphic aspects.
This study is part of a series developed by the authors to give a general panorama of the written culture and the level of literacy of the population of the kíngdom of Granada ínthe XVIth. century.
