Abstract

In the first quarter of the 11th century, the Banū Ḥammūd founded two petty kingdons in Malaga and Algeciras that had both their own and separate lives at the same time. The kingdom of Malaga was based on two cities: Malaga, the capital, Dār al-Mamlaka , the caliph's seat, and Ceuta, the heir's residence that provided safety on the other side of the Gibraltar Strait and symbolized the true identity of the Banū Ḥammūd. This work does not intend to study the history of this kingdon but to analize the relationship between both cities and the conduct of different sectors of the population.
