Abstract

We collect, classify and study the references to linguistic heterogeneity in the archaic Greek epic; we also discuss the existence of an ancient literary tradition that attributes to the gods a language different from that of men, trying to relate to these aspects the passage in which homer and hesiod include implicit or explicit etymologies of proper names.
