La Regio Bastitana como problema histórico

Abstract

In the present article we approach, from a political, administrative and ethnographicpoint of view, the meaning that could have had one of the Hispanic geographicalconstituencies named as regio in the works of Pliny. Concretely we will study the case ofthe Bastitania regio, trying to find answers to its creation in, we think, the Principalityof Octavian Augustus. There is no doubt that the significance that could have had theregiones for geographers or for the administration of Rome, is something that is stillunclear for the concrete case of Hispania. Studies conducted in other countries, such asthe case of Italy, have provided a broad comparison basis though, as we say, there is stillmuch research to be done, a research that will be helped by the advances that can comefrom the hands of archaeology.
