Abstract

This paper shows the history and evolution of the Albaicín Foundation, a municipal agency born in 1998 to manage and protect the Albaicín district in Granada. This district was nominated as a World Heritage Site in 1994 as an extension of the previous inscription of the Alhambra and the Generalife on the World Heritage List in 1984. We analyse the statutes and main activities of the Foundation, such as the management and implementation of several European grants, programs and projects, showing its strengths and weaknesses. Finally, we include some conclusions about the present and future of the Foundation

Miguel Valle Tendero, Arquitecto. Profesor Adjunto en el departamento de Expresión Gráfica en la Universidad de Granada.

Arquitecto. Profesor Adjunto en el departamento de Expresión Gráfica en la Universidad de Granada. Teniente de Alcalde de Urbanismo y Vicepresidente de la Fundación Albaicín (1997-1999). Gerente del Patronato Municipal Fundación Albaicín entre septiembre de 2007 y febrero de 2012.

Ana Carlota Valle Soriano, Licenciada en Historia del Arte por la Universidad de Granada. Máster en Arquitectura y Patrimonio por la Universidad de Sevilla.
