Abstract

The book "José Menéndez-Pidal Álvarez, conservative-restorer architect" published by the University of Granada within the prestigious collection: Arquitectura, Urbanismo y Restauración, sheds light on an important character in 20th century Spanish architecture. An architect who had not yet received the attention he deserved. His research fills a void, not the only one still pending, but which is added, with solvency and rigor, to the historiography and architecture criticism on this recent period of architecture in Spain. This work is located within the results of the national research project: “The restorative architects in the Spain of the Franco regime. From the continuity of the 1933 Law to the reception of the European theory ”. Which is part of the recognized line of research "Restore architects in Franco's Spain", with extensive experience. A line of research, directed by Professor Pilar García Cuetos of the University of Oviedo, who, thanks to a cast of brilliant researchers (Esther Almarcha, Ascensión Hernández, Belén Castro and others), is leading the criticism towards the architectural restorations that were carried out in those years.
