Abstract

History is deeply marked by patriarchy. This implies that since the beginning of mankind a social and cultural structure established by the prevalence of part of the population over another because of gender has been generated. As social beings we organize ourselves, and in all social organization it is necessary to coordinate the various components that participate in it. This coordination role is assumed by the leader.

The presence of women holding leadership positions remains limited and exceptional. The reasons for this discrimination are many. One of them is imposed by women themselves, the "glass ceiling".

The orchestra is an organization formed by a hundred musicians who are highly specialized. It can be considered as a company, which, like all organizations, needs a coordinator, the director. The world of classical music was dominated by males, although many women studied classical music, men professionally were more prominent. It was unthinkable a few years to find female conductors, but as women have begun to assert their rights and obtain their place in all fields, in the field of music they have  been gaining ground too and of course in orchestra management.
