Abstract

The development of tourism in recent years has shown, in the most diverse "geographies", that it is an economic activity, which has been recognized as a real instrument of development and influence of other activity sectors.

When generating wealth and opportunities for social mobility, the tourism phenomenon is, nowadays, also regarded as one of the most balanced ways to fight poverty, not only by including local communities in economic activities, but also by enhancing different policies and tourism for all programs. Therefore, any analysis of tourism should consider its impacts on the destination, on society - in the regions of origin - and on tourists.

In order to present a new vision of tourism within a social conceptual framework and connected with a sustainable development background for local communities, the analysis presented in this paper emphasizes the important role of tourism as an inclusion and social cohesion factor.
