The article addresses poetic retranslation through a specific case study: the history of Federico García Lorca’s translations into Russian between 1936 and 1969. The research, based on bibliometric analysis, pursues three objectives: examining the history of García Lorca’s translations in the Soviet Union during the specified period, establishing a methodology for future research on translated poetry, and contributing to the theoretical understanding of poetic retranslation as a general phenomenon. The theoretical framework combines approaches from retranslation studies, which highlight sociocultural factors in the retranslation process, and Yu. Levin’s concept of plurality of translations, which considers the formal characteristics of the original poetic text as catalysts for new translations. The bibliometric analysis reveals two main stages in Lorca’s reception (1939-1946 and from 1956), separated by a gap, with a notable intensification of publications in the sixties. The formation of the Lorquian canon in Russia is studied through the analysis of the most republished translations and the most frequently translated texts. Additionally, the article addresses issues such as the replacement of previous translations through retranslations, the valorization of the original through retranslation, and the influence of the translator's prestige on the reception of the work.
