Abstract

The fastener in clothes and suits is a unique invention of mankind, because it helps not only to connect the edges of clothes, it is a bright accessory that complements and sometimes decorates our costume. The article analyzes the names of fasteners used in Russian language: button, zipper, Velcro, cufflinks. Based on the materials of historical, etymological and dialectical dictionaries, the meaning of the studied words, their first fixation in written monuments, the origin of words is clarified, and also the local names of the words fastener and button, noted in Russian folk dialects, are considered. According to historical and etymological dictionaries, it can be seen that the studied vocabulary was in active stock for many centuries, was used in the speech of the Russian people.
