The Verb "Vejat’" in Modern Russian from the Perspective of the Lexical Semantics

The article is about the functioning of the verb "vejat’" in modern Russian. Possible use of the verb are described. Each of them is described by a formal scheme in order to determine the range of their possible arguments and their semantic nature. A special place is given to the prohibitions on compatibility. The first part of the article examines the personal use of the verb "to believe", and the second it’s the impersonal use. The article also analyzes the metaphorical use of the verb «to see» and clarifies the conditions in which a metaphorical transfer is possible. The theoretical basis of the article is the work of Zellig Harris.
