Abstract

The preposition “simultaneously with” («одновременно с») is nesessary to single out as a separate lexico-semantic variant, formed on the basis of the adverb. Constructions with the adverb and with the preposition are synonymous, interchangeable but not identical; the adverb has greater freedom in its use. The use of the preposition “simultaneously with” is limited in word-building and stylistically. The adverb “simultaneously” («одновременно») has the secondary meaning of co-existing of the different (‘as well as’, ‘also’) («вместе с тем», «а также»), it may be used as parenthesis. In the system of parts of the sentence the adverb “simultaneously” should be considered not as an adverbial modifier but as a temporal qualificator, which is a means analogous to function words. The adverb and the preposition are widely used as the means of textual cohesion.
