Abstract

During 17th and 18th centuries a powerful oligarchy took shape in the Vega of Granada. From the start of 17th century, on the Vega several lordships are created, thanks to Habsburgs financial needs. The present work tries to show the relationships between two social groups, lords and local elites which govern the municipal councils. Those relationships become conflicts and lawsuits. The ultimate result of this game of power relations is the victory of the local groups, which separate finally, in power and richness, from the rest of the society of the different places analysed.
