Abstract

The main altarpiece of the old Jesuit church in Granada is thought to be one of the most important Works in the development of altarpieces in the Andalusian Baroque. This paper clarifies its construction and explores its style in detail, in order to contribute to a better understanding of its place in the development of this Baroque. At the same time we examine the main aspects of the iconography it presents and places this in the context of the specific artistic patronage of the Society of Jesus.
