Abstract

This article examines the polemical situation created in Granada at the beginning of the last century regarding the celebrations of the tri-centenary of the birth of Alonso Cano. These celebrations in fact never took place, and as a result a series of articles was published in La Alhambra with the double aim of clearly establi shing the reputation of Cano's work, and of giving expression to an intellectual cri tique of the passivity of the town toward such a significant opportunity to honour one of its most renowned sons.
