Abstract

One of Pedro de Mena’s most important iconographic series were the passion figures of the Ecce Homo and the Virgin of Sorrows (Mater Dolorosa), often conceived together as a pair. There are many known works of this type and there are also references to other works that have disappeared or they are in an unknown location. This article presents two unpublished sculptures belonging to a private collection. Their quality falls short of the mastery of the main exemplars of this sculptor, but they are undeniably works of interest.
