Abstract

In the Fine Arts section of the Provincial Museum of Jaén we find an importan! collection of painting from the 19th and 20th centuries. These works form part of the collections which the Prado Museum sent to various institutions in the town and to the Museum itself for storage. They are also part of the works which the Spanish State acquired in the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts which were held between 1856 and 1968. The Prado lacked space to exhibit these paintings, and this led to their being housed in various provincial museums where they are at present on show.
